Our story

How Worcester Water Damage Restoration works

Worcester is the shire town of Worcester County and a city of hills, traditionally counted as seven. The Blackstone River forms in the centre, where the Middle River meets Mill Brook, and the Quinsigamond runs out of Lake Quinsigamond at the eastern edge. None of that is scenery when water is involved: it is the shape of a valley city whose buildings sit in it.

The housing explains most of our calls. Wooden three-deckers went up from the 1880s to about the mid-1920s, Queen Anne first and Colonial Revival and gambrel forms later, and they still stand in numbers in Main South, Belmont Hill, Vernon Hill, Oak Hill and Grafton Hill. Around them are the mill villages, with worker houses of the same era. Owner-occupancy in the city is 42.8 percent (census.gov), which means a great many of these calls involve a tenant, an owner and two other apartments at the same time.

So the work is practical and it is local. Stop the water, get it out, find where it went in a building with plaster, lath and plank floors, then dry to a measured goal and prove it. Repairs to pipes go to a plumber, roofs to a roofer, and reconstruction is quoted after everything tests dry.

Who actually turns up with the equipment

The company on site holds the credentials, and you can check them

Worcester Water Damage Restoration is a call line that connects callers with an independent, licensed local water-damage restoration company. The first part of the job is the phone: someone answers, asks which floor the water is on and where it came from, and talks you through the main shut-off. The crew that then arrives belongs to an independent local company, normally the nearest one free at that hour. That company is the firm in your building, so it is the firm that must hold whatever licences, permits and registrations the job calls for, carry its own insurance, and answer to the office that issued them. This site performs no restoration work and audits nobody's paperwork.

In Massachusetts that paperwork has several parts and no single water-damage licence: no state licence specific to water-damage restoration was found. Ask whether the company holds a Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration from the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, which covers residential work on existing, owner-occupied homes of one to four units and is held by the contractor who signs the contract; reconstruction work generally falls under it. Structural repair and the building permit need a Construction Supervisor Licence, which need not be held by the same person. Pipe, water-heater and sewer-line repair is work for a plumber licensed by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters. No state mold-contractor or mold-inspector licence was found, so treat any mold certification as an industry credential and ask to see it.

Ask for the registration or licence number whenever you like on the phone, or when the company calls to arrange the visit. No number is printed here, because that is the other company's private business information and its privacy is not ours to give away. Then check it yourself: the state's HIC and Construction Supervisor Licence lookups on mass.gov will tell you what the registry holds, and hiring an unregistered contractor means losing access to the state arbitration programme and the Guaranty Fund, which pays out only up to a state-set cap.

What we hold ourselves to

Safety is the first instruction

Every call starts with the main shut-off and with staying out of water near outlets, cords and a wet panel. Equipment can wait the half minute that takes.

No invented numbers

No price appears on this site, and none is given over the phone, because it would be a guess. The scope and the price are explained in the building and approved before anything runs.

Evidence, not reassurance

Readings and photographs at the start and at every check. If a material is not drying, that shows up in the log rather than in a conversation on the last day.

Honest about the limits

Pipe repair, roof work and what a policy pays are three things this line does not decide. You are told which specialist or which office to ask, at the beginning.

Service standards

Our promises on every visit

  • Calls answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including cold snaps and storm nights
  • A crew sent as soon as one is free, with no promised arrival time and no invented window
  • Safety steps on the first call: the main shut-off, standing water near outlets, and leaving a wet panel alone
  • The water categorised before work starts, so a drain backup is never handled as a clean-water loss
  • Scope and price explained in the building and approved by you before equipment runs
  • Moisture readings in plaster, framing and subfloor at the start and on every return visit
  • Readings and photographs available for your insurer, and reconstruction quoted only after materials test dry

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who decides what gets removed and what stays?

The readings, with you. The technician shows which plaster, lath, insulation or flooring still reads wet and explains whether drying in place is realistic. Anything that has to come out is described and approved before it is touched, and in a pre-war house that conversation happens more often than it would in a newer one.

What is different about drying a three-decker?

Three floors and three households. Water from an upper unit shows up in the ceilings below, so the technician has to read all of them, and equipment has to be placed in rooms other people live in. Access matters too: stairs are often narrow and the only route for hoses and dehumidifiers. See three-decker water damage for how that is handled unit by unit.

Does the age of the building change anything before demolition?

It can. MassDEP requires an asbestos survey before renovation or demolition and ten working days' notice before disturbing asbestos-containing material, with an emergency provision for sudden unplanned events. If cleanup will disturb old plaster, pipe insulation or flooring, ask about asbestos rules first rather than after.

Can landlords, condominium trustees and businesses call this line?

Yes. Multi-family buildings, mill conversions, offices and shops along the Route 9 and I-290 corridors call as well, usually when one unit's water has reached another. Commercial water damage restoration is scoped on a walkthrough, and owners get the same readings and photographs a homeowner would.
